Next-gen Kindle leak shows off colors and a possible new size

Amazon’s latest base-model Kindle e-reader is only a couple of years old now, but it looks like another refresh is just around the corner. Leaked marketing imagery for an unreleased Kindle device has appeared online, showing what looks like a refined version of the entry-level Kindle released in 2024.

Leaker Roland Quandt shared several images of the new Kindle in a write-up for WinFuture. There aren’t many details beyond what we can see in the images: the new Kindle will be available in a handful of pastel colors and could even come in two variants, though it’s not obvious from the imagery what the difference between the two would be.

WinFuture has a bunch of images of the upcoming Kindle. The biggest visual changes versus the current entry-level model are flatter edges, rounded corners on the display, and a repositioned power button that now lives on the right-hand edge of the device — tweaks that all make the e-reader a little more similar to modern smartphones. Unlike prior models, there’s no Amazon branding on the new e-reader. The Kindle wordmark appears under the display and around back, but there’s no Amazon “smile” logo to be seen.

There are also two different versions represented in the images. A version shown in black, green, and light blue colors (above) seems to have a fairly pronounced Kindle Colorsoft-style lip around the front of the device, as well as a display that appears flush the e-reader’s housing. A slightly different model shown in darker blue and lavender colorways (below) seems to have a display that’s not quite as flush with the front of the device. The sample text is also laid out slightly differently on the two versions, with those pictured below showing a proportionally larger Prologue heading and thicker margins around the body text.

Aside from the very minor visual differences we can see from the images, we don’t know how these variants differ. It could be that the new Kindle will come in multiple sizes, with one version meant to be more pocketable than the other. But it’s also possible that only one of the variants shown here represents what Amazon will eventually sell — these are leaked images, after all.
