LastPass Families is the password manager your family needs
If you and your family need a place to securely store and share passwords and accounts, try LastPass’ brand-new family plan.
In case you’re not familiar, LastPass is a freemium password management service that launched a few years back. Although its browser extensions have been slightly controversial due to several security risks and breaches, the password manager app for Android boasts an average rating of 4.6 stars in the Play Store and is effective in what it does. One feature that LastPass has been missing all these years, however, is a true family plan, and the good news is that it’s finally on its way.
The family subscription allows for up to six members to create as many folders as they want to store, share, and access logins, passwords, personal accounts, and more.
Starting later this summer, the company will offer a brand-new plan called LastPass Families, and as the name might suggest, it’s packed with group features that are designed with family needs in mind. The family subscription allows for up to six members to create as many folders as they want to store, share, and access logins, passwords, personal accounts, and more on any device. And each person gets to control which information is available to whom – so for instance, you might restrict your bank account details to your partner while giving access to your Netflix subscription to all your family members.
The way it works is straightforward: the person who pays for the subscription is the lead family manager and gets to add and remove (awkward) family members as well as designate additional managers. LastPass says that the family plan will come with an emergency access feature so that designated members of the family have access to the stored information even in unexpected situations.
If you are already a LastPass Premium customer, you will be able to try LastPass Families for free for six months, and regardless of whether you are already a paying user or not, you can sign up now for early access to the company’s newly-announced family plan by clicking here. While the official press release does not mention any pricing, I’m sure we will get more information as we get closer to the launch date.
