While there was speculation that the Moto Z and Moto Z Force would not be receiving security updates, Motorola has now confirmed that both devices will indeed be on the update roster. However, the company failed to clarify if that means the monthly updates pushed by Google and many other major OEMs, or on a timeline specific to Motorola.

Motorola told Android Central that both devices would receive the first security update not long after their July 28 launch. The confusion seems to have stemmed from the Ars Technica review of the Moto Z that claimed Motorola had stated neither device would be eligible for Google’s security bulletins.

So if that statement (and its aftermath) has put you off either device, rest assured that Motorola has laid the issue to rest. Of course, there are plenty of you that won’t believe Motorola’s updated claim either, but with only a week to launch time, there won’t be too long to wait and see if Motorola sticks to its promises.
