File this in the questionable branding department. LG’s X series is supposed to be made up of “specialist” phones, each with a unique talent that make it stand out in the crowd. So why is it that we can’t tell what the new X5 and X Skin are all about?

Introduced today in South Korea, the X5 and X Skin don’t stray too much from the recipe that LG used to unknown success with the other phones in the series. That means you’re getting middling specs and plastic designs that don’t leave a lasting impression, one way or the other.

The X Skin seems to be targeted at the fashion conscious. It’s 6.9 millimeters thick, weighs just 122 grams, and comes in gold or silver. The display is a 5-inch 720p LCD and the phone is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, coupled with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. There’s also a rear 8MP camera, a frontal 5MP one, and a removable 2,100 mAh battery.

The LG X5 switches to a 5.5-inch display (still 720p), and couples the same quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The cameras are updated to 13MP and 8MP, while the battery is 2,800 mAh. The X5 comes in two color variants: a rather pretty indigo (dark blue) and white.

Both the X5 and the X Skin run on Marshmallow. In South Korea, the LG X5 will cost the equivalent of $170, while the X Skin will be slightly more expensive at $200, despite the less impressive spec sheet. We don’t know yet when, or if, the X5 and X Skin will be offered internationally.
