Verizon LG G6 is the first variant to get Oreo, rolling out now!

Charge up your phone and free up some storage space, because the LG G6 Verizon update to Android 8.0 Oreo is rolling out now!

The LG G6.

The Verizon LG G6 (or the LG G6 ThinQ, if you’re into that sort of thing) shipped with Android 7.0 Nougat. LG skipped the Android 7.1 Nougat update, instead opting to go straight to Android 8.0 Oreo. Well, that day has come – for Verizon users, anyway.

Starting today, via Droid Life, Verizon-branded LG G6’s will receive an update to Android 8.0 Oreo. The OTA weighs in at 1.9GB, so be sure to connect to Wi-Fi and have plenty of battery charge before beginning the process. Also, make sure you have enough space on your device to accommodate the big file!

Once you do update, you’ll have access to the usual Oreo features like picture-in-picture, notification dots, and access to Android Instant Apps. However, Verizon hasn’t posted specific release notes for the update yet, so we’re not sure if there are other, more Verizon-specific updates included with the file.

To check for the latest update (if you haven’t been notified already), simply head to Settings > System update. Initiating a refresh there should get you started with the update process.

There is still no word from LG on when other versions of the LG G6 – like the T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, and unlocked versions – will get some Oreo goodness. We’ll keep you posted at our LG G6 update tracker article once we get the word!
