Before we dive into the nuts and bolts, let’s first talk about the standout features from the LG G8 specs sheet. First up is the G8’s advanced palm vein recognition, or Hand ID as LG calls it. The G8 uses its front-facing ToF sensor (LG calls it Z Camera) to recognize the shape, thickness, and other characteristics of users’ veins. We have a full explainer coming a bit later, which you should definitely check out if you’d like to learn more. If you aren’t interested in using vein recognition (I’m never going to get used to saying that), you can still utilize the phone’s face unlock and fingerprint sensor.
Something else worth pointing out is the LG G8 ThinQ’s Crystal Sound OLED (CSO) display. The G8 uses its 6.1-inch Quad HD+ OLED display as a diaphragm to help produce clearer, richer sound, eliminating the need to have a front-facing speaker. You’ll want to check out our hands-on article for more details on that.
LG’s G line has always featured the latest and greatest specs, so it’s no surprise to see the G8 ThinQ sporting the new Snapdragon 855 SoC. Backing that up is 6GB of RAM — no, it’s not the 8-12GB that some phones are offering now, but 6GB should be more than enough.
Last year’s LG G7 had a pretty impressive pair of cameras around back, and LG hopes to improve on that with the G8. This time around, the LG G8 comes with a 16MP wide-angle sensor (same as last year), paired with a 12MP standard lens down from the 16MP shooter last year. This year’s standard lens offers a 1.4μm pixel size though, which will presumably offer better low-light performance.
It’s also worth noting LG is launching an LG G8 variant with three rear cameras in some markets. We don’t have any availability information at this time, but we do have the specs. It’ll come with the same cameras as the LG V50 ThinQ 5G: 16MP ultra-wide, 12MP wide, and 12MP telephoto lenses.

A few other tidbits to round out the LG G8 specs sheet: It comes with a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, an IP68 water resistance rating, a MIL-STD-810G rating, as well as a 3,500mAh battery.
You probably noticed mention of the LG G8s ThinQ in the specs table above. This is essentially the same phone as the standard G8, with a few minor sacrifices to cut down the cost. The G8s has a slightly larger Full HD+ display, three rear cameras, and a slightly larger battery. Unfortunately we don’t have the full list of LG G8s specs for you, but we’ll presumably get more details when the phone launches later in the year.
Thoughts? If you’re a power user, would you buy the LG G8? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to check out our other LG G8 coverage below:
