LG Pay is live now in the United States, but only on one phone
Today, LG announced that its contactless payment app LG Pay is available in the United States for the first time. As with the similar apps Google Pay and Samsung Pay, LG’s version allows you to use your smartphone as a payment method at many different credit card terminals around the country.
Unfortunately, LG Pay only works on one phone at the moment: the LG G8 ThinQ. If you own a G8, you can click here to download the app from the Google Play Store.
If you don’t own the G8, sit tight: the app will be available on the LG V50 ThinQ 5G, LG V40 ThinQ, LG G7 ThinQ, and LG V35 ThinQ “in the coming months.”
Despite Google Pay being the most popular tap-to-pay app available right now on Android, LG’s competitor app does offer a few perks that Google Pay lacks. For example, LG Pay supports wireless magnetic communications (WMC) which allows it to work even if there’s no NFC chip support on a credit card terminal (Samsung Pay does offer this feature, though).
LG Pay also integrates with a gift card company called Swych, which allows you to buy, gift, swap, re-gift, and even upload gift cards from over 600 brands.
However, LG currently only has support from a handful of financial institutions at the moment, which might not work for you.
If you own the LG G8, hit the button below to give the new app a try.
