LG V30s with 256GB of storage and LG Lens said to debut at MWC
- Rumors suggest the V30s will have 256GB storage and an LG Lens camera.
- The phone is expected to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
- This will pit the LG V series directly against the Samsung Galaxy S series.
Just last month, LG Electronics Vice Chairman and CEO Cho Seong-jin spoke about plans to change the way the company released smartphones. Instead of releasing a constant stream of new phones, Cho said that the company plans to “ retain existing models longer by, for instance, unveiling more variant models of the G series or V series.”
Well, it seems that we may be about to see the first steps of this in action as Korean tech site ETNews are reporting that LG will release a new version of the LG V30 in the Korean market next month. It is expected that the new phone will be officially announced at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
The report says that the new phone will be called the LG V30s, something that fits in with what Cho Seong-jin said about releasing more versions of existing series instead of completely new phones. The phone is expected to cost a little over one million won ($918) putting it alongside the Note 8 and the iPhone X as phones that have broken the one million won barrier.
While the design of the phone will be the same as the existing LG V30, there are expected to be a number of changes.
Firstly, there will be 256GB of storage. This is a significant upgrade on the 64GB found on the standard V30 and double the 128GB found on the V30 Plus. In fact, this will be the same amount as the LG V30 Signature Edition, a limited edition phone released in Korea that cost almost $2000 dollars.
The other major new edition is expected to be called the LG Lens. This is thought to be a camera with AI features similar to the Bixby Vision camera that is found on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8.
LG Lens is expected to give users the ability to search for and shop for items using the camera. As well as this, it will offer a foreign language translation service and augmented reality functionality that uses both the camera and the phones GPS.
The expected release date of the V30s will pit it against the Samsung Galaxy S9. ETNews suggested that there is a strong chance that the phone will be released in Korea on March 9 around the same time as the Samsung flagship.
While there is no mention of an international release in the article, the fact that it seems like the V30s is going to replace the G series means that the chances of an international release are surely high.
