Lollipop heading to Android One phones in India “in the next few weeks”
Following a seemingly long delay and an absence of information from official channels, Google India has finally confirmed that Android Lollipop is still on the way to the Android One series of smartphones.
According to the Google+ post, Android One users in India can expect a Lollipop update to appear in the region within “the next few weeks”. This time frame is a little vague and could still mean that an update is perhaps more than a month away, but some confirmation is better than nothing.
It is likely that Android One smartphones in India will receive the same Android 5.1 Lollipop update that was spotted on Android One handsets in Indonesia earlier today. Perhaps jumping straight to Android 5.1 is the reason for the long delay and why Google could keep its original promise to bring Lollipop to the budget friendly One series in good time.
With Android One devices also set to launch in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka soon, we will have wait and see if these devices come with Android 5.1 pre-installed, or if users will have to join the queue of customers still waiting for Lollipop.
