TL;DR
  • The MANGMI Pocket Max has quietly received a battery capacity upgrade, going from 8,000mAh to 10,000mAh.
  • This means it might have the largest battery out of any Android handheld on the market.
  • The handheld otherwise offers a Snapdragon 865 chip, a 7-inch 144Hz OLED screen, and a base 8GB/128GB model for $230.

The MANGMI Pocket Max is one of the most notable large Android handhelds on the market, delivering a 7-inch 144Hz OLED screen and an 8,000mAh battery for ~$230. That battery is pretty competitive for a large handheld, but it turns out that the company stealthily upgraded the capacity.

The Pocket Max product page reveals that the device now comes with a 10,000mAh battery instead of the existing 8,000mAh pack (spotted via r/sbcgaming). It’s unclear when this change took place, but it was still listed with an 8,000mAh battery in the most recently archived product page (August 6).

That’s great news and means this might be tied for the biggest battery of all Android handhelds on the market, matching the AYANEO Pocket S2. Other close rivals include the AYN Odin 3 Portal (9,000mAh) and the upstart ARC X1 (9,300mAh).

MANGMI’s handheld also offers a large 144Hz OLED panel, the ability to swap out the D-pad and face buttons via magnetic modules, and 27W wired charging. The latter means you’ll likely have to wait over two hours to fully charge the 10,000mAh battery.

The handheld also offers a Snapdragon 865 chipset, which is pretty old compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 seen in the ~$259 Odin 2 Portal and the $244 Retroid Pocket 6. But the Odin 2 Portal was originally released in 2023, while the Pocket 6 doesn’t have a huge screen compared to the AYN or MANGMI devices.

In any event, the 10,000mAh battery means the Pocket Max is worth considering if you care about endurance more than bleeding-edge emulation. So you might want to add this handheld to your wishlist if you want a large, long-lasting device for emulating PS2/GameCube/Xbox/Dreamcast and below.
