The Surface Laptop Go is Microsoft's most affordable clamshell yet
- The Laptop Go is the newest member of Microsoft’s Surface family.
- The $549.99 base model comes with an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
- You can also configure it with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.
A refreshed Pro X isn’t the only new Surface device Microsoft announced today. The company also detailed a new entry-level computer called the Surface Laptop Go that fills a gap in its portable lineup. That’s thanks to the fact that it fits in between the more expensive Surface Laptop 3 and less capable Surface Go 2.
The Surface Laptop Go features a 12.4-inch PixelSense touchscreen display with 1,536 x 1,024 resolution and Microsoft’s signature 3:2 aspect ratio. Inside, there’s a four-core, eight-thread Intel i5-1035G1 processor with a 15W TDP. The $549.99 base model comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage. Two additional models allow you to configure the Surface Laptop Go with 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD or 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD for $699.99 and $899.99, respectively. All three models come with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity.

The Surface Laptop Go forgoes Microsoft’s usual Windows Hello IR camera, instead opting for a fingerprint sensor built into the computer’s power button. The good news is that it still comes with a 720p webcam.
It also comes with a full-sized keyboard with 1.3mm of key travel and a generous trackpad. In terms of IO, you get access to single USB-A and UBS-C ports, a headphone jack, and Microsoft’s Surface Connect for charging. According to Microsoft, battery life comes in at approximately 13 hours with typical usage. The included 39W adapter allows you to recharge the battery to 80% in an hour.
In short, the Surface Laptop Go looks like it will be a compelling option for those who don’t need the most powerful computer but still want a machine that’s capable and looks attractive. You can pre-order the Surface Laptop Go starting today in three colors — Ice Blue, Sandstone and Platinum — with general availability opening on October 13th.
