Monument Valley: Forgotten Shores to hit Amazon Appstore today, Google Play on Monday
Just a day after Amazon’s monumental giveaway of Monument Valley, it seems there is even bigger news in store: the Amazon Appstore that is. Ustwo, the game’s publisher, has announced (via Polygon) that Forgotten Shores, the recently released iOS expansion to Monument Valley, will launch on the Amazon’s mobile market today (November 20th), where it will remain a temporary exclusive. Those who wish to wait for the standard Google Play Store edition need only survive the agony until Monday the 24th.
As the expansion requires the original game, it’s critical to note you must have the Amazon App Store version to play it; those of you who already own the Play version must wait until Monday. The expansion, available as an in-game purchase and retailing for $1.99, will bring 8 new worlds for Princess Ida to get her Escher on.
While Ustwo’s heroine may not be Lara Croft, it’s still a bit strange to see this kind of mobile exclusivity within the Android environment, and the accompanying incompatibility. The game’s executive producer, Dan Grey, told Polygon that, “Amazon have been really committed to supporting us since the release of [Monument Valley] and sales have been surprisingly high. They’ve supported us in a number of ways during a crucial release period to make sure our Android version could be available as soon as possible and we’re really happy we get to give Android users a version so soon after the iOS release.”
