Monument Valley is being turned into a movie by Paramount Pictures
- Paramount Pictures has partnered with ustwo games to create a family-focused film around the company’s Monument Valley mobile game.
- The movie will be directed by Patrick Osborne.
- The movie is rumored to include a hybrid of live action and CG elements.
Monument Valley and its sequel offer some of the most breathtaking visuals found in almost any mobile game. While most never looked at the puzzle app as more than a game, Paramount Pictures has decided to turn the series into a family-focused movie.
The makers of Monument Valley, ustwo games, confirmed the news on Twitter shortly after Deadline unveiled the collaboration.
The rumours are correct. There’s going to be a Monument Valley movie! In collaboration with Paramount Pictures and Patrick Osborne. We couldn’t be more excited. https://t.co/j2riIGZfru pic.twitter.com/XGPBabM3z5— ustwo games (@ustwogames) August 22, 2018
Unfortunately, details about the Monument Valley movie are still pretty scarce. What we do know is that Paramount Pictures and Akiva Goldsman’s Weed Road Pictures are producing the film and have selected Patrick Osborne to direct it. You might recognize Osborne from his work in the animated movie industry after working on flicks such as Feast, Big Hero 6, and Pearl.
It’s also rumored that this film will use a mixture of live action footage and merge it with CG elements. But as the movie does not have a screenwriter or a screenplay yet, we’re still in the early days of production. As things progress, we should learn more about the Monument Valley movie.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a popular mobile game get turned into a feature film. Back in 2016, Columbia Pictures worked with Rovio Animation to turn the hit Angry Birds game into a children’s movie. If the Monument Valley movie turns out to be a success, this could open the door to more movie adaptations of mobile games.
