Android 8.1 Oreo heading to US variants of Android One Moto X4
If you own the U.S. variant of the Android One Motorola Moto X4, you should be getting the March update of Android 8.1 Oreo soon. Users on Reddit are confirming receipt of the OTA update today, complete with image proof:
Since Android One is incredibly close to stock Android, it’s not surprising that this update is making the rounds. However, rumors came up last week that Motorola intends to abandon the Moto X5, and the entire X line might not continue. That news broke when information leaked to the internet about Motorola laying off a significant portion of its Chicago staff.
So while this update is good news for current Moto X4 owners, who knows if and when future updates will make it to the device.
Android 8.1 Oreo is a slight upgrade from Android 8.0 Oreo and includes updates like viewable battery levels of connected Bluetooth devices, Safer Browsing technology, and more control over notifications. Since Android One is close to stock Android, Moto X4 users receiving the update today won’t see many other additional features.
Most importantly, though, this update brings the March 2018 Android security patch to the Moto X4, which is the latest patch available.
