The Moto G Play (2024) brings some much-needed upgrades for the price
- Motorola has announced the Moto G Play (2024) handset.
- The new phone brings processor, RAM, and storage upgrades.
- Expect to pay a recommended price of $149.99 when the device goes on sale.
Motorola’s G Play series is one of the most affordable budget phone lines around, although last year’s model was a little too barebones for our liking. Fortunately, the Moto G Play (2024) is here to pick up where the previous device left off.
The Moto G Play (2024) brings a significant upgrade in the form of the Snapdragon 680 4G chipset. This chip is based on old technology, effectively derived from the 2017-era Snapdragon 660, but it’s still a horsepower upgrade over the lightweight Helio G37 used in the 2023 model. Thankfully, the phone also enjoys 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage compared to 3GB/32GB last year.
Motorola’s phone also brings a 6.5-inch 720p display (90Hz, Gorilla Glass 3) and a 5,000mAh battery with 15W wired charging. Switching to the cameras, you should expect a solitary 50MP rear camera and an 8MP fixed-focus selfie shooter.
Other notable features include a 3.5mm port, Android 13 (no Android 14 here), Bluetooth 5.1, an IP52 rating, stereo speakers, and Wi-Fi 5.
Motorola Moto G Play (2024) pricing and availability
The Moto G Play (2024) will be available in both Canada and the US. Motorola’s phone goes on sale in Canada from January 26, while US customers can get the phone from February 8.
Motorola hasn’t released Canadian pricing, but US customers can expect a recommended price of $149.99.
