Motorola Moto G Stylus (2022) launched: Good hardware at a good price
- The Motorola Moto G Stylus (2022) is the newest budget device from the brand.
- It has mostly low-end specs, but a huge battery, a good display, and a decent rear camera.
- In the United States, the phone is available to pre-order unlocked now for $299.
At this point, we are almost certain the Samsung Galaxy Note series is done. The idea of a premium smartphone with a built-in slot for a stylus will probably live on through the Galaxy S22 Ultra. That’s great news for premium shoppers, but what should budget shoppers look for instead?

Enter the Motorola Moto G Stylus (2022). Like a Galaxy Note phone (and the S22 Ultra), it has a slot that stores a stylus. However, it lands with a price that’s literally a quarter of what we expect the Galaxy S22 Ultra to cost.
Of course, you’ll need to make some significant trade-offs for that low price. Find out what we mean below.
Motorola Moto G Stylus (2022)
The 2022 iteration of the Moto G Stylus focuses on three key areas: battery life, display, and camera. Its 5,000mAh battery is as large as the ones you’d find in premium flagships. Its 90Hz display with an FHD+ resolution is uncommon in this price bracket. Finally, its 50MP rear main camera sensor is also a premium for this class.
However, outside of those specs, the phone is no powerhouse. Its MediaTek Helio G88 processor is not going to be great for power users. Meanwhile, its 10W wired charging speed, 64GB of starting storage, 4GB of starting RAM, and 16MB selfie camera aren’t going to be too impressive either.
Most egregiously, though, the phone ships with Android 11 out-of-the-box. Considering Android 12 has been out for four months now, this seems like a particularly weird move. However, Motorola probably wants to debut Android 12 on a more premium handset.
The Motorola Moto G Stylus (2022) is available for pre-order now in the US from Amazon, BestBuy, and Motorola.com. The phone will set you back $299 and comes in two colors: Metallic Rose and Twilight Blue. Cricket Wireless and Consumer Cellular will both eventually have the phone as well.
