Motorola has launched the world's first 200MP camera phone
- Motorola has launched the X30 Pro in China.
- It’s the first phone to feature a 200MP camera.
- It’s also Motorola’s fastest charging phone.
Motorola unveiled the Razr 2022 today, but the foldable phone is not the only flagship the company launched. It also made official the first phone carrying a 200MP camera — the Motorola X30 Pro.
The phone features Samsung’s HP1 200MP sensor which was launched last year. It can opt to use all 200MP as individual 0.64-micron pixels. It also employs Samsung’s ChameleonCell pixel-binning tech to group four or 16 pixels into a single larger pixel. These two configurations effectively turn the Isocell HP1 into a 50MP sensor with 1.28-micron pixels or a 12.5MP sensor with 2.56-micron pixels.
Other key attributes of the Motorola X30 Pro include the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip, 125W fast charging — the fastest on any Moto phone to date, 50W wireless charging, and a 6.7-inch 144Hz refresh rate display. Motorola claims the new wired charging standard brings up the X30 Pro to a 50% charge in just seven minutes and a 100% charge in 19 minutes.
The device could easily be the most powerful flagship launched this year.
The phone has two other rear cameras apart from the 200MP shooter. These include a 50MP ultrawide sensor and a 12MP telephoto shooter. There’s a 60MP selfie snapper upfront.
Clearly, the Motorola X30 Pro has a lot going for it. The device could easily be the most powerful flagship launched this year. However, we’ll have to test the phone to see how it all comes together. Unfortunately, the X30 Pro is only coming to China for now. Pricing starts at 3,699 yuan (~$549) for the 8GB/128GB model, rising to 4,499 yuan (~$668) for the range-topping 12GB/512GB flavor. There has been some chatter about it launching internationally as the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra with an €899 (~$915) price tag, but nothing is set in stone.
