Netflix is reportedly in talks to add rival streamers like Peacock

From Peacock to ESPN, there’s been a rash of streaming-related price hikes lately. If you’re worried that this article will be about Netflix announcing a rate increase, you can rest easy. That’s not happening, at least not yet anyway. Rather, this has to do with Netflix reportedly opening up its service to its rivals.

It appears that Netflix is interested in becoming a one-stop shop for streaming. The New York Times reports that Netflix is considering adding shows and movies from other streaming services. The company is said to be currently in talks with Peacock and Fox One to bring their content to the platform.

Will Netflix start selling subscriptions to these services through its app? Or will the streamer simply tack on this extra content to its service? At the moment, it’s unclear what exactly Netflix’s intentions are. Either way, this is a shift away from how the company typically operates, which is to focus exclusively on its own library.

If the report is correct, Netflix would be in the same company as YouTube. In fact, YouTube recently struck a deal with Peacock, too. As a result, NBCUniversal’s streaming services will become a perk for YouTube Premium subscribers next year.
