Netflix in March 2018 - here's what is new

March is just getting started and if you're looking for something great to watch, you'll find plenty of new (and syndicated) shows and movies on Netflix this month.

Last month’s surprise release of The Cloverfield Paradox makes it hard to announce upcoming Netflix releases with any certainty, but let’s give it a try.

There are plenty of new series to get excited about, with the documentary miniseries Wild Wild Country sitting at the top of my list. It premiered at Sundance and recounts the rise of an immensely popular cult in Oregon during the 80s — and the resistance to it from neighboring communities.

Fan favorites like Marvel’s Jessica Jones and  A Series of Unfortunate Events return and are not to be missed. The Outsider has also piqued my interest, though I’m very cautiously optimistic. The film follows Jared Leto joining the Japanese Yakuza soon after World War 2. It looks gritty and dark, and full of interesting post-war history. Reboot: The Guardian Code is one new series I have very mixed (or flat-out negative) feelings about. It, ahem, reboots the original 90s series, a CGI trailblazer, but switches to a live-action cast and what seems to focus on teen drama.

Let’s not forget what put Netflix on the map though. It’s easy to ignore the movies and series Netflix brings in when so much original content is being thrown at us. For example, Wet Hot American Summer joins the lineup, which will be great for anyone looking to return to Camp Firewood. Then you can keep on watching the Netflix original follow-ups: First Day of Camp and 10 Years Later.

There’s plenty more comedy, like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, or a few Jackass titles if that’s more your speed. Martin Scorsese’s classic Casino joins the pack too, along with the blood curdling and intensely claustrophobic The Descent.

Or if you liked Netflix’s cyberpunk feature Mute this month, check out Duncan Jones’ earlier Moon, which takes place in the same narrative universe.
