Mysterious new Garmin smartwatch spotted in FCC filings

Now that the Cirqa Smart Band is out, you may be wondering what else Garmin is working on. This will come as a surprise, but it turns out that the company’s next product will be a smartwatch. I know, I know, no one could’ve seen that coming. This smartwatch was recently spotted in a regulatory filing.

The folks over at Gadgets and Wearables found the filing sitting in the FCC’s database. These documents don’t include the name of the device, but they do reveal that the model number is A05170. Additionally, Garmin describes the hardware as a portable digital transceiver, but the SAR evaluation report calls it a wrist-worn device.

As for connectivity, the filing reveals that the wearable will combine support for LTE and satellite communication. So when you’re out of reach of a cell tower, the satellite connectivity will pick up the slack. Along with those two features, it also mentions support for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy, ANT/ANT+, and NFC.

It’s unclear what line this smartwatch will fall into. However, the outlet suggests that this could be either the Enduro 4 or fēnix 9. The fēnix 9 is believed to be the most likely candidate of the two. We may not have to wait long to get our answer, as an FCC filing is usually a sign that a launch is close.
