Nintendo Switch 2 jailbreak brings YouTube to the console
Oct 26, 2026 — 3:35 PM ET

- After the first-ever Nintendo Switch 2 jailbreak was released, users have managed to get YouTube running on the system.
- Two Switch 2 game files and RomFS archives, The Duskbloods beta and assets from Mario Kart World, are reportedly being dumped.
- A homebrew developer has reportedly created an untethered Switch 2 exploit.
Last week, security researcher Sammy Hajhamid, who goes by pepsipu, released the first-ever Nintendo Switch 2 jailbreak. Predictably, things have been moving fast since that breakthrough. Hackers have used the exploit to shore up one of the glaring omissions on the system. And one person may have even created an untethered exploit.
You would think having a YouTube app on a portable device such as the Nintendo Switch 2 would be a no-brainer. However, YouTube is not supported on the platform. With the release of last week’s jailbreak, X user @byizmysh (via Wccftech) has managed to get the service running on their Switch 2. It reportedly runs on the open-source VacuumTube project, which uses the lightweight YouTube on TV experience.
YouTube is running on Switch 2 now!Wrote the whole thing in Brainfuck, obviously. Don’t ask why I stopped using BASIC.Based on the open-source VacuumTube project.#Switch2 #Jailbreak #Homebrew #ns2jb https://t.co/Ton1OVtPoX— Izmysh (@byizmysh) October 25, 2026
In addition to YouTube, users are dumping two Switch 2 game files and RomFS archives. These games happen to be The Duskbloods beta and assets from Mario Kart World. If hackers can decrypt Switch 2 games, it could lead to the creation of playable ROMs.
Finally, a security researcher and console homebrew developer who goes by Gezine has reportedly developed an untethered Switch 2 exploit. The jailbreak by Hajhamid was a tethered exploit, meaning it’s a software modification that requires the device to be connected to a computer or external helper tool every time it’s turned on or restarted. If true, Gezine’s solution would free the Switch 2 from this tether, placing the full exploit chain inside the save data.
