Report: Nintendo Switch to go bigger with OLED display, 4K on TV in 2021

The successor to the wildly successful Nintendo Switch has been highly anticipated for a while now. Rumors about a Switch Pro model have been sketchy for the most part, but a trustworthy source just revealed some new details that seem concrete.
According to Bloomberg, Nintendo plans to unveil a new Switch model this year with a bigger display and bumped-up resolution on TV.
Citing people familiar with the plans, the publication reports that the upgraded Switch will get a 7-inch 720p OLED screen, up from the Switch’s 6.2-inch and Switch Lite’s 5.5-inch size.
Samsung Display will reportedly get the charge to mass-produce the new panel, with an initial monthly target of just under a million units.
The new Switch is also expected to enable 4K gaming when docked. That’s a welcome upgrade from the 1080p resolution it currently delivers on TV. However, developers may not appreciate the widened resolution gap between handheld and docked modes.

When will the Nintendo Switch Pro launch?
The Switch panels made by Samsung Display are apparently slated to ship around July. Bloomberg claims that Nintendo is targeting the holiday season this year to bolster demand for the new console. That means we can expect it to launch around December, but both Nintendo and Samsung Display have declined comment on the matter.
That said, the latest report is in line with a previous leak that also predicted a 2021 launch for the Switch Pro. We’ll just have to wait and see what Nintendo has in store, although we do expect to get some more leaks if the console is indeed coming later this year.
