Thought the Galaxy A9's quad-camera setup was overkill? HMD Global thinks Samsung didn't go far enough...

TL;DR
  • A new leak has given us a better look at the Nokia 9 smartphone.
  • The images and video corroborate an earlier image, showing a penta-camera setup on the rear.
  • The leak also suggests the new phone will offer an in-display fingerprint sensor.

A leak earlier this year gave us our first glimpse at a Nokia-branded penta-camera smartphone, said to be the Nokia 9. Now, a new series of images and a 360 degree render video (seen above) have given us a closer look at the phone.

The leak comes via OnLeaks and 91Mobiles, revealing the Nokia 9 design and camera setup in all its glory. Much like the earlier image, we see a five-camera setup on the rear, along with a flash and mysterious black sensor.

We don’t know what kind of cameras are used on the rear but, if it’s anything like recent triple camera smartphones, we’d expect standard, telephoto and super wide angle cameras at the very least. We wouldn’t be surprised to see a monochrome camera and/or depth sensor, either.

In terms of the actual design, the Nokia 9 brings to mind the LG G6, featuring a similar metal frame and notchless 18:9 front. Speaking of the front, we see one selfie camera on the right-hand side, along with what appears to be two sensors on the left. Don’t expect a multi-camera setup on the front, then.

Unlike the G6, however, the Nokia 9 seems to lack a headphone jack. The phone is also missing a visible fingerprint scanner, which points to the inclusion of an in-display fingerprint sensor instead. Both decisions wouldn’t be unexpected for a 2018 smartphone, as the OnePlus 6T and HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro show.

Other noteworthy design choices here include a bottom-firing speaker, USB Type-C, power and volume keys on the right, and a SIM tray at the top.

We don’t know much else about the new phone, but we’d expect a Snapdragon 845 chipset, at least 6GB of RAM, and an OLED screen (in-display sensors require OLED tech) for starters.

What do you make of the phone in light of this leak? Give us your thoughts below! You can also check out more Nokia 9 images at the 91Mobiles website.
