Nokia 9 PureView hits Best Buy stores March 3 for $599
HMD Global today said its recently announced 2019 flagship, the Nokia 9 PureView will go on sale in the U.S. starting March 3. The phone will be available at Best Buy (online and in stores), as well as Amazon.com and B&H Photo.
The company is offering a compelling reason to buy the device at launch. HMD Global’s retail partners will sell the Nokia 9 PureView for the promotional price of $599 from March 3 through March 10. Starting March 11, the cost will jump to the normal retail price of $699. In other words, those who pick up the PureView during its first week on sale will enjoy $100 in savings.
Nokia 9 PureView a 5-camera beast
HMD Global revealed the Nokia 9 PureView earlier this week during the MWC 19 trade show. Its stand-out feature is a five-camera array on the back developed in partnership with ZEISS and Light. Each camera captures 12MP images at f/1.8. With two color sensors and three monochrome sensors working together, HMD claims the PureView can take pictures with more accurate exposure and a deeper degree of depth. This gives it the power to adjust bokeh blur on the fly with more granularity than other phones can produce. All five cameras snap at the same time and Light’s computational photography algorithms combine the images into a single picture.
Aside from the camera itself, the phone includes powerful editing software thanks to a collaboration with Adobe Lightroom. Images are stored in the uncompressed RAW format, and this gives Nokia 9 owners far more latitude to make adjustments and edits after the image has been captured.
The phone features an anodized aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass front and back. The pOLED screen measures 5.99 inches and has Quad HD+ resolution in an 18:9 aspect ratio. A fingerprint reader is embedded beneath the display glass. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s 2018 premium chip, the Snapdragon 845, and ships with 6 GB of memory and 128 GB of storage.
Other features include IP67 for protection against water, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Cat 16 LTE. The phone includes a 3,320mAh battery and supports rapid and wireless charging.
Nokia 9 PureView ships with Android 9 Pie and it falls under the Android One initiative. It will receive two years of OS updates and three years of monthly security updates — something which few phone makers offer such a guarantee.
