We asked, you told us: Our readers' love for Nokia is a complicated affair
Nokia was a mobile phone heavyweight well before the likes of Samsung and Xiaomi arrived on the scene. We’ve seen the brand change hands since, from Microsoft to HMD Global, and so has its philosophy. Now, the brand recently launched its latest rugged device, the Nokia XR20, in the hopes of claiming part of a niche market segment.
However, our readers’ reaction to Nokia and its new products has been pretty tepid recently. To that end, we recently asked you if really still care about the brand and its products in 2021. Here’s what you told us.
Do you still care about Nokia smartphones in 2021?
Results
This simple yes/no poll garnered over 2,200 votes, suggesting that the Nokia name still gets our readers’ tongues wagging. The overall results seem to mirror this, too.
More than three in every four respondents (77.8%) admit that they still care about Nokia’s smartphones in 2021. Arguably, HMD Global hasn’t really launched many exciting Nokia smartphones this year, and we’re still waiting for that long-awaited Nokia 9 PureView follow-up. Despite this, it seems a vast majority of readers still harbor some hope that the brand is heading in the right direction.
The lack of a clear vision has left a few readers jaded, though. 22.2% of readers claim that they no longer care about the brand’s devices.
More reading: It’s been two years since the last Nokia flagship phone. What gives?
The comments suggest that those currently using Nokia phones may still believe in the brand due to HMD Global’s software update guarantees, the phones’ relatively low prices, and durable bodies. However, considering the small portion of users willing to comment compared to how many voted in the poll itself, it seems that not many readers care enough to make their thoughts known.
Your comments
- Atlanticboy35: I think my Nokia 4.2 is ideal for my needs. It’s not the size of a small TV, updates are guaranteed for three years, it’s running Android One and cheap enough that if I drop it or lose it, it’s not the end of the world. I wish there were more phones like this to choose from.
- Murray R McKenzie: My Nokia 6.1 is built like a brick shithouse.
- Anthorama: Where is the Nokia 9? Lol.
That’s it for this poll. Thanks for your votes and comments. If you have any thoughts about Nokia, its products, or the poll results, be sure to drop them down below.
