A durable Nokia smartphone is coming, but will it live up to the 3310?
- HMD Global has teased the arrival of a more durable Nokia smartphone.
- The firm claims that you won’t need a case for this new device.
Nokia brand licensee HMD Global launched a variety of mid-range and low-end phones as part of the X, G, and C series earlier this year, but it’s been relatively quiet otherwise. Now, the firm is promising something for fans of durable smartphones.
“With our newest Nokia phone you will never need a case again,” the firm noted in an image posted to Twitter. The tweet also hints at a July 27 launch date for the new device. Check it out below.
We’re not sure if the phone in the picture is representative of HMD’s upcoming device. Still, here’s hoping we’re looking at a rugged device capable of withstanding rough handling and water dips as opposed to just a tougher plastic design. Then again, the classic Nokia 3310 wasn’t water-resistant but gained a reputation for being an absolute tank.
FoneArena reckons the upcoming device could be the apparent Nokia XR20. This is said to be a rugged version of the Nokia X20 and purportedly appeared on GeekBench recently (although we take benchmark listings with a bag of salt). The original X20 launched with a Snapdragon 480 5G SoC, 64MP main camera, and a 4,470mAh battery. So it stands to reason that the new device could share some of these features.
