We thought of notch years before iPhone X release - HUAWEI
Essential made a splash last year when its phone launched with a notch on its display. But Apple arguably made the feature mainstream with the iPhone X. Now, a Huawei executive has claimed that the Chinese brand thought of the notch way before Apple released the device.

Li Changzhu, vice-president of HUAWEI’s smartphone line, told Forbes that the company thought of the notch “three to four years ago,” though the executive added that Apple’s use of the notch displayed “courage.”
“We missed our chance to (pioneer) with the notch design,” Li was quoted as saying. “We were too conservative and cautious.”
Apple’s use of the cutout has led to a ton of copycats, as the ASUS Zenfone 5, OnePlus 6, LG G7 ThinQ and numerous budget brands jump on the bandwagon. The feature has also found its way onto the HUAWEI P20 and P20 Pro.
HUAWEI takes color up a notch
A notch isn’t the only interesting design choice for the HUAWEI flagship line either, owing to a rather eye-catching Twilight color option. But it turns out that many HUAWEI designers were against this color scheme, which features a blue to purple color gradient.
“Many on the team thought the (Twilight) color was too much, they thought we should stick with pure colors,” Li elaborated. “But I told them, ‘You do not represent everybody.'”
The executive added that HUAWEI would be “more bold” with future product releases. If it means we get more radical solutions like the Matebook X Pro‘s webcam or the P20 Pro’s triple camera setup, then why not?
