NVIDIA is (voluntarily) recalling Shield plug heads over safety concerns in Europe

Today, NVIDIA announced the voluntary recall of some plug heads of its Shield wall adapters. The company determined that the European plug heads shipped with its Shield World Charger Kits, Shield tablets, and Shield TVs between July 2014 and May 2017 may cause some safety issues. NVIDIA is now working with the proper government authorities to make sure the recall goes smoothly and the faulty components will be replaced for free.

Apparently, the plug’s so-called “duck head” has a chance of breaking off, which is “posing a risk of electrical shock.” Thankfully, the issue is present only with some of the standard two-prong European plug heads and do not affect other regions.

In order to determine whether your NVIDIA plug head is affected by the recall, you can release it from the AC adapter and look at its back. If the back lacks a punch mark in the last two triangles of row 16 and/or lacks the letter B in one of the corners, you should register for a replacement.
