Physical Best Buy locations mistakenly selling NVIDIA Shield TV Pro units
The NVIDIA Shield TV Pro and the new stick-like NVIDIA Shield TV device both haven’t been launched yet by NVIDIA. However, a few people around the United States have already successfully ventured into Best Buy stores and successfully purchased one.
A commenter on the AVS Forum posted pictures of the Shield TV Pro they were able to buy. Shortly after, a Reddit user did the same (h/t Liliputing for the links).
From what we can surmise from these stories, it seems certain Best Buy locations already have stock of the NVIDIA Shield TV Pro but aren’t supposed to sell them. However, these users were able to walk in and request one and clerks sold them, not seeming to understand that they were breaking the rules.
Liliputing even lists out the Best Buy SKU numbers for both the Shield TV Pro and the smaller Shield TV — 6370425 and 6370422 respectively. Theoretically, you could go to a Best Buy location and hand over these SKU numbers and possibly buy a currently-unreleased Shield TV device for yourself. We don’t advise you do that, though, as you — or the unwitting clerk who helps you — could get in trouble just for trying.
Regardless, it is very strange how NVIDIA is going about the release of these devices. Technically, they haven’t even officially revealed they exist, but people are already buying them. We expect the company to launch the devices within the next few days.
