Turns out “OK boomer” can also wake up your phone
Ok, boomer remind me to make my bed.
No, this isn’t something you’ll probably say to your sweet ol’ ma, but you can say it to your phone.
Gen Z and millennials have united against condescending old people and its seems the Google Assistant has also caught onto the trend. The voice assistant can usually be woken up on phones and smart speakers by saying the words “Ok Google.” But in the wake of the “Ok Boomer” meme, it’s pretty hilarious that Google’s smart assistant also responds to the popular catchphrase. And it’s not even that old!
This little tidbit was first discovered by users on Reddit. We tried it on the Google Assistant on a OnePlus smartphone and it seems to work just fine.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen smart assistants respond to phrases other than their wake words. Amazon’s Alexa is more than proficient at responding to random callouts. Just the other day I was watching the “End of the Fu***ng World” on Netflix and my Echo Dot kept lighting up whenever it heard the protagonist’s name “Alyssa”.
“Ok, Boomer,” though, is something we’d never heard the Google’s Assistant respond to. We did know however that it responds to “Ok, BooBoo,” “Ok, Poodle,” “Hey, Guru,” “Ok, Bugle,” and many more. You get the drift.
So go ahead, say “Ok boomer” to your phone. Just make sure your mom is out of earshot.
