OnePlus 16R spec leak suggests it could fix one of 15R's biggest flaws
Oct 12, 2026 — 7:10 AM ET

- A new leak suggests the OnePlus 16R could come with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, triple 50MP cameras (including a telephoto), a 165Hz display, and a battery larger than 7,500mAh.
- Bringing back the telephoto camera could be one of the biggest wins for the upcoming affordable flagship, as users have frequently complained about its absence in the OnePlus 15R.
- The phone is reportedly also being tested under the realme brand.
OnePlus appears to be preparing a big leap for its next affordable flagship, as a major leak detailing the OnePlus 16R’s specifications has surfaced, right alongside the OnePlus 16‘s launch. According to the leak, the upcoming device could pack class-leading battery capacity, one of Qualcomm’s top-tier chips, and a long-overdue overhaul of its rear camera system.
Reliable tipster Yogesh Brar shared details of a OnePlus 16R Product Validation Test (PVT) unit on X, outlining a spec sheet that pushes the “R” affordable flagship lineup well past its typical compromises.
Chief among the highlights is an enormous battery that could exceed 7,500mAh, a capacity that would dwarf most mainstream smartphones and signals OnePlus’s aggressive push into silicon-carbon battery tech. The OnePlus 15R came with a 7,400mAh battery, so while it’s still technically an update, existing owners would find the jump rather modest.
The OnePlus 16R is also tipped to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with a display featuring a fast 165Hz refresh rate.
Some users would have preferred the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, but the latest and greatest from Qualcomm comes with an equally high price tag. Going with an older chip would be the right move here for an “affordable flagship” line, while still technically an upgrade over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in the OnePlus 15R. We’ve seen 165Hz on the OnePlus 15R, so hopefully, OnePlus does something more here for the display upgrade.
The camera department is also reportedly receiving a serious correction. OnePlus has frequently cut corners on its R-tier devices by omitting dedicated zoom cameras (missing on the 15R and 12R, but present on the 13R), but the leak claims the 16R will feature a triple 50MP rear camera array that could bring back a dedicated telephoto sensor.
Interestingly, Brar notes that this hardware configuration is also being tested under realme branding. This is a fairly familiar playbook for parent company OPPO, which often shares internal platforms across its sub-brands. While PVT specifications indicate hardware is entering late-stage testing, tweaks can still happen before mass production begins. It also remains to be seen which markets the OnePlus 16R will launch in, though the US and Europe remain firmly out of the equation.
