OnePlus 3 teardown reveals a fairly repairable device

We were a bit disappointed when OnePlus abandoned the removable backing that existed on the OnePlus 3’s forerunner, allowing you to hot swap between a variety of different StyleSwap covers. However, the design shift to a full aluminum body didn’t stop the folks at FoneArena from getting under the device’s skin. Their OnePlus 3 teardown reveals how the device’s high-end tech is housed in the unibody design.

The disassemblers first removed the two main screws at the bottom of the device that keeps the backing secured to the OnePlus 3. This piece proved to be a solid chunk of aluminum, just as advertised by the company, and didn’t run afoul any plastic compromises that created drama for certain other devices.

This teardown continued fairly smoothly, with researchers having little difficulty taking apart any component of the smartphone after the backing was originally pried off. If you’re the kind of tinkerer who prefers to take his life – or at least his smartphone warranty – into his own hands, then this device won’t prove too difficult to repair on your own. As always, we would remind readers that attempting repair on your own device can have some pretty dire consequences, so you probably don’t want to go digging around in your OnePlus 3’s guts without a modicum of experience in the area.

All in all, FoneArena gave this device a 7.5 out of 10 repairability score because all the internal components are relatively easy to remove and replace once the casing is breached.
