OnePlus 5 Android Oreo beta program coming November, final rollout due "early 2018"
OnePlus revealed the OnePlus 5T yesterday, a more powerful version of its current flagship, the OnePlus 5. The new device, which is set to go on sale next Tuesday, improves upon its predecessor in several areas — namely with its bezel-less 18:9 display — but it won’t arrive running Android’s latest version, Android Oreo.
OnePlus is working on Oreo compatibility for its devices though: it’s currently in open beta on the OnePlus 3 and 3T, and the company has said it will arrive to the 5T in Q1 2018. During the OnePlus 5T’s announcement yesterday, OnePlus also took the time to provide an idea of when it would land on the OnePlus 5.
According to 9to5Google, OnePlus said the OnePlus 5 Oreo beta program would be launched within the next two weeks via the OnePlus forums — its usual home of updates — and this will be followed by a rollout in “early 2018.” The beta will also be open to anybody who wishes to install the software on their device.
OnePlus has chosen not to publicly specified a date for the update as it did last year with Nougat, when it only narrowly met its December 31 deadline, and it’s probably a wise decision; adding unnecessary pressure hurry out the update could result in poor performance or potentially letting down fans.
We’ll let you know as soon as OnePlus officially launches the beta for the OnePlus 5. Who’s excited? Let us know in the comments.
