OnePlus promises camera fixes for 7 series, describes testing procedure
There’s no doubt that the camera system on the OnePlus 7 Pro is the most ambitious from the company yet. With its triple-lens setup and 3x optical zoom, the OnePlus 7 Pro represents the company’s biggest push yet to ditch its status as the maker of just so-so cameras.
However, OnePlus fans over at the company’s official forums are still not pleased with the camera on the OnePlus 7 Pro. A new thread entitled “Camera quality sucks…” is already 35 pages deep and filled with early adopters complaining about image quality (to be fair, some are also defending it).
OnePlus staff member Jimmy Z — one of the leads of the OxygenOS development team — finally stepped in and issued some statements in response to the complaints.
In the statement, Jimmy Z admits that pleasing everyone when it comes to camera quality is “an impossible task” as “camera quality is quite subjective and uncontrollable.” However, he does state that an imminent update for the 7 Pro will address problems with both HDR and Nightscape features. This update will land “in a week or so.”
Jimmy Z also describes how OnePlus tests the camera systems on its devices when it receives a complaint (grammatical errors in the post are unedited):
Every time when there is a photo sent to us due to negative feedback, our engineers are requested to find the same light condition and object of same color and texture to simulate the photo in order to reproduce the same problem. You can imagine the time and workload needed for fixing every single problem, not to mention the dozens of photos we got from all over the world everyday. We hope you guys could understand and allow us more time keep working on the camera.
A bulk of the people in the thread responded positively to Jimmy Z’s comments as it at least shows that OnePlus is listening and working to make the camera the best it can be.
