Latest OnePlus 7 Pro speculation tips it for Quad HD+, 90Hz display
The OnePlus 7 Pro may house a Quad HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, according to comments from Android Central and tipster Ishan Agarwal. The speculation arrived earlier today, and if it’s accurate, it would be the first time OnePlus has used such a high-resolution display on one of its smartphones.
Quad HD displays describe screens with 2560 × 1440 pixels, while Quad HD+ is used to indicate panels with slightly more pixels, typically found on 2:1 or 19:9 aspect ratio smartphone screens. Higher-resolution displays tend to look smoother and more detailed than lower-resolution displays.
The 90Hz refresh rate, meanwhile, could be a boon for mobile gamers as it makes supported titles look and feel smoother to play. Most smartphones have 60Hz refresh rates, but the higher the number, the more responsive the display feels when interacting with it. The gaming-focused ASUS ROG Phone also has a 90Hz display, but only a few games are compatible with it currently, which lessens its appeal somewhat. The Razer Phone and Razer Phone 2 currently hold the crown for the highest refresh rate on an Android phone though, offering 120Hz screens.
Other specs Agarwal is tipping include a triple rear camera with wide-angle and telephoto lenses, a 4,000mAh battery with 30-watt WARP charging, USB 3.1, and a dual speaker setup. We’d previously heard it would house a pop-up selfie camera, too.
Check out the render video below which gives us a look at what the OnePlus 7 Pro might look like. Note the unit was previously referred to simply as the OnePlus 7.
The OnePlus 7 Pro is one of two OnePlus handsets rumored to launch next month — the other being the standard OnePlus 7. Several differences between the phones have already been hinted at: the standard device is said to lack Pro model’s curved screen, pop-up front camera, and have one less camera on the rear camera. If the Pro model does get it Quad HD+ display, I suspect it will be unique to that device too.
On Sunday, Agarwal also suggested the OnePlus 7 phones would launch on May 14. The tipster is responsible for many of these recent rumors so I’d treat them with particular caution until we spot other sources suggesting the same.
If all we’ve heard is true, the OnePlus 7 Pro sounds like it could be a beast of a modern smartphone. But will it have an impressive price tag to match? We look forward to hearing some speculation on that.
