OnePlus 8 Pro vs OnePlus 8

TL;DR
  • The OnePlus Nord might be the first phone from the company with dual selfie cameras.
  • Leaks suggest a 32MP primary and 8MP wide-angle camera.

As the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro continue the company’s upward trajectory towards the premium segment, there has been an affordable-sized hole in its lineup. It’s been known for a while that the company is getting ready to reveal a new, affordable smartphone called the OnePlus Nord that will compete in the mid-range segment.

Leaked renders and specifications have given us a good idea of what to expect from the phone, but it seems like the company still has a few tricks up its sleeve. A fresh leak from Android Central alleges that the OnePlus Nord will be the first device from the company to sport dual cameras at the front.

The combination of a 32MP primary sensor and an 8MP wide-angle module should help the device stand out in the particularly crowded mid-range segment. More so in key markets like India where OnePlus gets most of its sales. The company recently took to Instagram to start building hype around the launch.

The switch to a dual-camera module is interesting considering that the company hasn’t dabbled with the solution even in its high-end range. But we’ve seen dual selfie cameras on phones from OnePlus stablemate Realme as well as the Pixel 3 series. Other OnePlus Z rumors suggest that the rear set-up will be pretty compelling too with quad cameras on offer.

With a Snapdragon 765G chipset and 90Hz AMOLED panel rounding off the package, the OnePlus Nord is shaping up to be a very competent device but will have to fend off competition from the likes of the realme X3 and Xiaomi’s Redmi series that compete in the same price range.
