OnePlus pads up its portfolio with big-battery Android tablet
- OnePlus has announced the OnePlus Pad, an Android tablet with a large battery and a 144Hz display.
- It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset.
- The company has also unveiled a stylus and a magnetic keyboard as optional accessories for the tablet.
OnePlus has officially entered the tablet market with an 11.61-inch Android tablet called the OnePlus Pad.
It brings a number of impressive features on paper. For starters, it sports a large 9,510mAh battery, just a little short of what the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus offers. OnePlus claims its tablet can facilitate 14.5 hours of video watching and has a one-month-long standby time.
The sizeable battery of the OnePlus Pad also gets 67W fast wired charging, which OnePlus claims can top-up the tab fully in 80 minutes.
The OnePlus Pad has the highest refresh rate in the Android tablet space.
Another key feature of the OnePlus Pad is its 144Hz display refresh rate, the highest in the tablet space. However, you don’t get an OLED panel (it’s LCD), and you won’t be able to enjoy the full 144Hz experience all the time. Scrolling on the OnePlus Pad will have up to a 120Hz refresh rate. The 144 times per second refresh is only supported by specific apps. “Some of these apps include Contacts, Messages, and other built-in apps of the OnePlus Pad,” the company told Android Authority.
At its core, the OnePlus Pad gets the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processor that rivals Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. This is paired with 8GB and 12GB RAM options. OnePlus hasn’t revealed the storage options as of writing this article, but the unit we saw at the launch event came with 128GB of storage.
There are two cameras on the tablet — a 13MP shooter centered at the back and another 8MP selfie snapper that rests at the top of the device when held in landscape orientation. OnePlus hasn’t revealed the specs of the camera, though.
Elsewhere, the OnePlus Pad supports OPPO’s Multi-Screen Connect with OnePlus phones running OxygenOS 13.1 or above. The feature allows users to share their OnePlus phone’s cellular data with the tablet. The company says this is a cost-effective way of getting carrier connectivity on the tablet instead of buying a separate SIM card.
That said, not all OnePlus phones will be able to enjoy cellular data sharing, and other Multi-Screen Connect features with the OnePlus Pad. The availability of the features will depend on specific phone models.
Speaking of software, the slate will launch with Android 13 on board.
OnePlus Pad: Price and availability
OnePlus hasn’t announced the price of the OnePlus Pad, but we do know it will launch in various global markets, including North America, India, Europe, and the Middle East. The company will announce pricing in the coming weeks. Perhaps we’ll see more details emerge around MWC 2023.
When it goes to market, the OnePlus Pad will be available in a Halo Green colorway (pictured). The tablet can be paired with the OnePlus Stylo stylus and the OnePlus Magnetic Keyboard. These are not a part of the retail box and will have to be purchased separately. As for the charger, OnePlus will include the 67W adapter in the box.
