OnePlus to open its first retail store in Beijing
The OnePlus One isn’t an easy smartphone to come by in every region, but the handset has been on sale without the need for an invite in China for quite some time. OnePlus is now making it even easier for Chinese customers to get their hands on its smartphone, as it will be opening up a store in the Blue Harbor area of Beijing on December 20th.
At first I wondered how OnePlus could possibly fill a store, given that it only has one smartphone right now. However, you’ll find the exceedingly rare Bamboo Cover model and the recently announced JBL Special Edition OnePlus One filling up the shelves, alongside the standard version of course. OnePlus also appears to have a range of complementary audio and other accessories lined up for sale.
Reports from China are suggesting that the Beijing store may just be the beginning. OnePlus could be planning to open up additional stores across China in the future, although we probably shouldn’t expect a shop to appear in any other regions. Remember that the company recently teamed up with Amazon to launch its product in India, and China remains the company’s largest single market.
OnePlus may have a long way to go before it has a retail presence that rivals Apple or Samsung, but the public opening of its first store in December leaves no doubt that the fledgling smartphone company is in it for the long haul.
