OnePlus Switch app migrates previous phone data to your shiny new OnePlus handset
- OnePlus launched a new migration tool on the Play Store
- OnePlus Switch migrates some, but not all, data from your previous phone
- A stable version will launch in mid-January
Christmas is behind us, which means at least some of you might have gotten a OnePlus-branded surprise underneath the tree. If you won’t want to start from scratch with your new device, you can move stuff over from your old smartphone thanks to the new OnePlus Switch app.
Essentially a migration tool, the app lets you transfer contacts, text messages, call history, calendars, pictures, videos, audio, and apps, though no app data is transferable. Also, your device settings will not be transferred, something that Google’s auto-backup feature can do if your phone runs Android Marshmallow or higher.
To get the OnePlus Switch app to work, make sure to have it installed on the phone you previously used and your new OnePlus phone. Your older phone must run on at least Lollipop for the app to work, so as long as you weren’t using something truly ancient, you should be fine.
Alas, the OnePlus Switch app is not available on iOS, so if your older phone was an iPhone, you’re out of luck. Also, the app is currently in beta, with a stable version scheduled to be released around the middle of January, though the release depends on the feedback that beta testers give.
If Santa (or Carl Pei dressed up as Santa) left you a OnePlus phone under the tree, and you want to migrate your information to the new device, you can give OnePlus Switch a download at the link below.
