OnePlus remote control spotted, OnePlus TV launch could be coming soon
Today, a certification listing went live for what appears to be a Bluetooth remote control created by OnePlus (via All About OnePlus). While the remote could be for any number of things, we’re fairly certain it is the remote control for the upcoming OnePlus TV.
We’ve known since mid-2018 that there will be a OnePlus TV launch at some point this year. However, since the company revealed this information, there’s been little talk about it since. At CES 2019, we sat down with the company and asked about the new product, but it wouldn’t confirm anything (not even whether or not the TV will use the long-gone OnePlus invite system).
This remote control certification is the first concrete hint that the OnePlus TV could launch soon.
It’s very possible that OnePlus will reveal the TV in October of this year along with the expected launch of “T” variants for its latest smartphones (possibly the OnePlus 7 Pro T and/or the OnePlus 7T). For what it’s worth, smartphone industry leaker Ishan Agarwal said the release of the TV “is not very far away,” so it’s certainly possible OnePlus will launch the TV before October.
So far, all we know about the OnePlus TV is that it will have a 4K resolution, an LED display, run on an operating system “from a big mainstream provider,” and focus on integration with smart home products. From this description, we assume the TV will be based on Android and come with Google Assistant baked-in — almost like a Google Nest Hub, but the size of a television.
We also know the OnePlus TV will be a major focus for the Indian market. Therefore, it’s possible OnePlus fans in the United States won’t be able to get the device.
