OnePlus brings flagship Wear OS features to more users with the new Watch 2R

Although it’s only been a few months since we got the OnePlus Watch 2, OnePlus has already launched another premium smartwatch. The new OnePlus Watch 2R is a more affordable version of OnePlus’ flagship smartwatch that offers a new lightweight design and retains most of the key features.

Like the OnePlus Watch 2, the new model packs two chipsets to maximize performance and efficiency that are paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. It utilizes Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 chip for demanding tasks, while the BES 2700 MCU Efficiency chipset manages background activities to prolong battery life.
OnePlus claims that this dual chipset approach and a 500mAh battery allow the Watch 2R to offer up to 100 hours of battery life on a single charge and up to 48 hours with heavy use. OnePlus has also equipped the smartwatch with 7.5W wireless charging support, which can get the battery back up to 100% in around 60 minutes.
The smartwatch features a 1.43-inch AMOLED display (466x466p) with a 60Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1000nits. It has an aluminum case that makes it 25% lighter than the Watch 2 and it offers IP68 certification for dust and water resistance.
On the software front, the OnePlus Watch 2R runs Wear OS 4 and offers support for a wide range of health and fitness features through the OHealth app. It includes over 100 sports modes, sleep monitoring, and heart rate tracking, and it can even track metrics like ground contact time (GCT), GCT balance, and VO2 max.
One of the main differences between the OnePlus Watch 2 and Watch 2R is that the latter does not offer NFC support, so you won’t be able to use it for mobile payments. OnePlus’ literature also lacks mentions of Bluetooth LE support, but we’re not sure if it’s missing on the new model at the moment.

The OnePlus Watch 2R will be available for purchase in the US and Canada starting today. It’s priced at $229 and will be available in two colorways: Forest Green and Gunmetal Gray.
