Xiaomi Redmi Note 3-5

The head of Xiaomi India, Manu Jain, has tweeted to say that the Xiaomi Mi 5 and Redmi Note 3 will be available in India (without registration) on June 1 from 10 AM local time. The Xiaomi Mi 5 will be available on mi.com but the Redmi Note 3 will be available on mi.com and Amazon India as well as through Flipkart and Snapdeal.

As many if you are aware – especially if you’re a Xiaomi or OnePlus fan – pre-registrations are a necessary evil for some manufacturers, especially those with an online-only sales strategy. Open sales mean general availability without waiting periods, the kind of purchasing scenario the vast majority of smartphone buyers expect.

#Mi5 – from 1st June 10 am onwards, Mi 5 will be available via open sale on Mi. com. No registrations required, buy anytime :) @XiaomiIndia

The surge strategy of flash sales has obviously worked a treat though, with Xiaomi recently reporting it has sold over 600,000 Redmi Note 3 units in India. Even though June 1 marks the start of open sales of both devices, Xiaomi has noted the sale is “only while stocks last”, so there may still be some waits if you’re not quick (remember there were open sales last month too, but those stocks sold out in minutes).

The Redmi Note 3 starts at Rs. 9,999 for the 16 GB/2 GB variant and Rs. 11,999 for the 32 GB/3 GB version, while the Mi 5 is priced at Rs. 24,999.

Which do you think is the better buy? Have you owned a Xiaomi in the past?
