OPPO Find X6 Pro announced: A phone that bets everything on its main cameras
- OPPO has announced its latest flagship phone, the Find X6 Pro.
- The company says the Find X6 Pro is ushering in the “three main cameras” era.
- The phone’s display is said to have the highest peak brightness on any smartphone.
After an impressive showing with the Find X5 Pro — excelling in multiple categories, including the display, battery, and design — OPPO is back again with the next iteration of its flagship phone. This year, it appears the OEM isn’t resting on its laurels, as the OPPO Find X6 Pro will be anything but an incremental improvement.
The OPPO Find X6 Pro makes some big changes to various aspects of the phone, all built around the device’s main feature — its rear cameras. Let’s break down everything you need to know about the Find X6 Pro.
OPPO Find X6 Pro: Design
Starting off with the hardware, OPPO has chosen to go with a new design philosophy for the X6 Pro. Ditching the unibody design of its predecessor, the X6 Pro sports a circular camera bump that houses three main cameras. You read that right, not one but three main cameras. We’ll get into that in a bit.
In another departure from last year, the body of this phone does not use nanometer microcrystalline ceramic material. Instead, it is covered by AG glass that has been polished to give it a metallic look and feel. However, the brown colorway also incorporates vegan leather.
The front of the device has a 6.82-inch HDR 10+ display that offers Dolby Vision and up to a 120Hz refresh rate. OPPO claims that this display is the brightest that’s ever been on a smartphone, delivering a blinding 2,500 nits of brightness.
In terms of protection, the handset uses Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. This version of Gorilla Glass provides 30% better drop resistance than the previous generation. It also boasts a water and dust resistance rating of IP68.
OPPO Find X6 Pro: Cameras
Moving on to the main attraction — the cameras. As mentioned earlier, the Find X6 Pro has three main cameras. According to the company, this phone is designed to usher in a new three-main-camera era devoid of the compromises multicamera systems usually have to make. This system comes complete with a 1-inch wide camera, a 1/1.56-inch ultrawide camera, and a 1/1.56-inch periscope telephoto camera.
Wide camera
The wide camera uses an IMX989 1-inch sensor that offers an f/1.8 aperture. That lens is joined by a custom 1G+7P High Transparency Lens Module. OPPO claims this is the largest photosensitive sensor area of any smartphone camera. As a result, it’s said that it may be able to gather more light than any other wide-angle smartphone.
Compared to the Find X5 Pro, it gathers 142% more light with a wider aperture and has a 156% larger sensor area. This eight-piece lens also offers optical image stabilization (OIS).
Ultrawide camera
In another first, OPPO claims it has fitted its handset with a sensor larger than any other wide-angle camera to date. The 1/1.56-inch IMX890 lens has an aperture of f/2.2 with a 110-degree field of view. This is meant to reduce lens aberrations and distortion while helping with straight lines and clear edges.
Periscope telephoto camera
Rounding out the three-camera system is the 1/1.56 inch periscope telephoto lens. Again, boasting the largest telephoto lens in a smartphone, this is the first time periscope zoom has made an appearance in the line since the Find X2. With an f/2.6 aperture, this sensor can capture low-light environments just fine. It also features a six times hybrid zoom with full optical quality and can capture 4K video with image quality that exceeds a five times fully optical telephoto lens.
Selfie camera
With such a focus on the rear cameras, it’s easy to forget the selfie shooter in the front. The selfie camera uses a 32MP IMX709 lens similar to the one on the X5 Pro. Although it’s the same hardware, it benefits from a new RAW processing domain.
OPPO Find X6 Pro: Internals
On the inside of the device sits a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip which is accompanied by OPPO’s Marisilicon X imaging NPU. Powering that processor is a 5,000mAh battery that comes with 100W SUPERVOOC flash charging technology. The company states that you can get a full charge in 28 minutes — 52 minutes if you use the 50W AIRVOOC wireless flash charging feature.
In terms of storage, you can expect up to 16GB of LPDDR5X memory. Additionally, the Find X6 Pro uses UFS 4.0 storage of up to 512GB, which offers significant improvements to transfer speeds, energy efficiency, and space-saving compared to UFS 3.1.
