OPPO foldable leak suggests an intriguing alternative to Galaxy Z Fold 3
- Details regarding a foldable OPPO phone have purportedly leaked online.
- It looks like the device could have a larger screen than the Galaxy Z Fold 3, for one.
OPPO revealed a prototype rollable phone earlier this year, showing us an intriguing alternative to foldable phones. However, previous rumors point to the company working on a foldable too, and it looks like more apparent details have leaked online.
Regular Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station has issued some purported specs for an OPPO foldable phone. The tipster claims that the device has a 7.8-inch to 8-inch 120Hz foldable display (with a QHD-level resolution), a Snapdragon 888 SoC, a 50MP IMX766 main camera, and a 32MP selfie camera.
Other notable specs mentioned by the leaker include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and Color OS 12 atop Android 11. Check out the machine-translated post below.
Digital Chat Station noted in the comments that the device’s proportions are similar to the HUAWEI Mate X2, suggesting that we’ve got a Galaxy Fold-like form factor rather than a clamshell Z Flip design.
The claimed foldable screen size could mean a bigger display than the Galaxy Z Fold 3‘s 7.6-inch panel if we’re assuming a similar aspect ratio. That 50MP IMX766 camera sensor would also be flagship-level on paper, with the likes of the OPPO Find X3 Pro using it to great effect. This sensor opens the door for 8K video recording too, which is missing on Samsung’s foldable.
There’s obviously no official word on a launch date or availability, but previous rumors pointed to a 2022 launch. So we could be in for a significant wait before seeing the device for the first time.
