OPPO K1 launched in India, makes in-display fingerprint sensors affordable
Following the launch of the OPPO K1 in the Chinese market, the company has finally decided to bring the product to India. One of the cheapest phones with an in-display fingerprint sensor, the brand is hoping to make a splash in India’s red hot mid-range segment.
The phone’s design language doesn’t seem to stray far from other OPPO smartphones. The back of the phone employs a gradient style finish as is in vogue. The gold embellishment around the 16MP+2MP rear camera combo may come across as a bit garish to some though.
Over at the front is a 6.41-inch full HD AMOLED display with a dewdrop notch, while the latter hosts a 25MP camera. The display has Gorilla Glass 5, which is good news if you’re in the habit of dropping your phone. The use of an AMOLED display with its deep blacks should also help the phone get a leg up over the competition and make it an interesting option for avid media consumers.
The big draw is, of course, the in-display fingerprint sensor on the device. The OPPO K1 is the first device in the sub 20,000 rupee (~$279) category to sport the futuristic biometric authentication technology.
The phone doesn’t really surprise when it comes to core specifications though. There’s a strictly mid-range Snapdragon 660 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM. Users also get 64GB of internal storage that can be expanded further via a microSD card slot. Unfortunately, the phone continues to make use of a micro-USB port for charging the 3,600mAh battery onboard.
The OPPO K1 is priced at 16,990 rupees (~$241) in India and will go on sale from February 12. The phone will be exclusive to Flipkart and comes with a number of offers. One of these offers is a buyback guarantee of 90 percent of the value of the phone as long as you send it back within eight months of purchase. Competing against the upcoming Redmi Note 7 and the Samsung Galaxy M20, the phone certainly brings something unique to the table.
