OPPO reveals unique credit card-sized multi folding phone concept
- OPPO has designed a triple folding concept phone dubbed the Slide Phone.
- The phone can unfold three times over to reveal a large 7-inch display.
- The design was previously seen in patents filed by OPPO.
OPPO filed patents for phones that fold not just once but multiple times back in November. The company has now paired up with Japanese design studio Nendo to show off a clear concept for its triple-folding “Slide Phone.”
The concept design created by OPPO and Nendo imagines a compact folding phone unlike any other foldable device out there.
The so-called OPPO Slide Phone is “the size of a credit card,” Nendo writes in a post on its website. It measures 54mm x 84mm in its folded state and features three hinges that bend over in the same direction.
It’s imagined that users will be able to slide open the different folds of the phone using their thumb.
Sliding open the first fold will reveal 40mm of the screen that’s just enough to view the time, call history, notifications, or a music player interface.
The next slide will open up 80mm of the screen as well as the camera. This, according to the concept designers, should help in taking selfies and making video calls.
In its completely unfolded state, the phone’s display will measure 7-inches.
“In addition to playing videos with an operable side panel, the user may also enjoy the phone as a controller in game mode with panels on either side, in multitask mode with numerous apps displayed in a row, and panoramic photography mode in full screen,” Nendo writes in its post. The video embedded above should help explain the concept a bit better.
The device also includes a stylus that rests within the phone’s body and can be taken out when needed.
