The upcoming Palm phone may have a teeny, tiny display
- Photos leaked of the upcoming Palm 2018 phone code-named “Pepito,” along with word that the phone may have a small 3.3-inch display.
- The same report claims that it will only have an 800mAh battery inside.
- The Palm 2018 phone, made by TCL, is rumored to launch in the U.S. later this year via Verizon Wireless.
Many people are excited by the prospect of a 2018 smartphone with the classic Palm branding. TCL acquired the brand a few years ago, and since then it has hinted that it will launch a Palm phone in 2018. Today, more rumors and leaks about that smartphone made its way to the internet, and — if they are accurate — this Palm device may be one of the more…unique handsets released in some time.
Android Police reports, via unnamed sources, that the Palm 2018 phone — which it says has the internal code name “Pepito” — will only have a 3.3-inch, 720p display, and a small 800mAh battery.
The same report has leaked images of both the phone and the internal battery, reposted above. The report also claims that the Palm 2018 phone will have Android 8.1 Oreo installed along with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of onboard storage inside.
Based on the leaked images, the phone will also have a rear camera, but there’s no word on how many megapixels it will have, nor is there any indication it will have a front-facing selfie camera.
The phone will also lack a headphone jack.
Android Police says that the phone will be sold via Verizon Wireless in titanium and gold color options here in the United States, but there’s no confirmation on whether the device will also appear in other countries.

If this story is accurate, the Palm Pepito (hopefully not its final name) will have one of the smallest screens included in a new smartphone in recent memory. Indeed, the only other smartphone that’s scheduled to be released this year with a smaller display is the rugged Unihertz Atom. It will have a 2.45-inch screen when it launches sometime later this fall.
The Atom phone is designed for people who want to go outdoors for hiking or biking for extended periods, but don’t want to bring along a huge smartphone that could easily break. Based on this new report on the Palm Pepito, we are not quite sure what the audience is for this phone. It’s possible TCL will try to market it for senior citizens, or maybe for families that want to give a phone to their kids.
There’s also no word on when the Palm phone will be released, nor how much it will cost. We wouldn’t be surprised if this phone was sold as a pre-paid handset by Verizon, however.
