If you own a smartphone, you want one with a battery that will last a long time on a single charge. However, something almost as important for many people is getting the best phones with fast charging batteries. It used to be that charging a phone took a long time, even if you just wanted to get about half of the battery’s charge.

Thankfully, that era is over, as companies like Qualcomm, MediaTek, OnePlus, HUAWEI and others have created technologies designed to charge a phone quickly. Indeed, some phones in the marketplace can charge up to half of their battery capacity in about 30 minutes, and get as close as 90 percent in just an hour.

In this article we will give you our picks for the best phones with fast charging features in the flagship, mid-range and budget catagories. Keep in mind that a phone’s charging speed tends to slow down when it starts approaching 90 percent of its battery capacity.

Best phones with fast charging – Flagship

HUAWEI P20 and P20 Pro

phones with fast charging

The latest flagship smartphones from HUAWEI are the P20 and P20 Pro, and at the moment, they are indeed the current champions in phones with fast charging capabilties. Both phones have Huawei’s in-house SuperCharge technology, and it allows the P20, with its 3,400mAh battery, to charge up from zero to 100 percent in just 72 minutes, according to our own testing. The P20 Pro, with its larger 4,000mAh battery, is not far behind its smaller brother; it can go from zero to 100 percent on its charging capacity in 90 minutes.

If you don’t have as much time to charge your phone, you are still in luck as the HUAWEI P20 charges to 65 percent in just 30 minutes, while the larger P20 Pro goes up to 54 percent in the same time frame. The HUAWEI P20 sports a 5.8-inch LCD display, while the Pro version boosts it up to 6.1 inches and a OLED panel. Both phones have HUAWEI’s Kirin 970 processor, with its NPU chip. These phones are not cheap, however.

The HUAWEI P20 will be sold in Europe very soon for 650 euro (around $800), while the more powerful HUAWEI P20 Pro will cost 900 euro (around $1100). There’s also the Porsche Design HUAWEI Mate RS variant of the P20 Pro that includes a in-screen fingerprint sensor, a 6-inch screen, and you can get one with a massive 512GB amount of onboard storage for  2095 euro ($2600). That’s the price that must be paid for the best phones with fast charging features.

Honorable Mentions

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus

The latest flagship phones from Samsung, when sold in the US, use Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology. The 3,000mAh battery on the S9 takes 93 minutes to fully charge up, while the larger 3,500mAh battery on the S9 Plus takes just a little bit longer at 96 minutes, according to our testing.

LG V30/LG V30 Plus

The LG V30 and its V30 Plus variant both have a 3,300mAh battery. It supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology, and the phone can go from zero to 53 percent of its battery capacity in just 30 minutes, and 86 percent in an hour, according to outside reviews. While that’s behind the scores of the Galaxy S9 and HUAWEI P20, it’s still much faster than older phones.

Best phones with fast charging – Mid Range

OnePlus 5T

Even though the OnePlus 5T has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor inside, the phone doesn’t use that company’s Quick Charge technology for its 3,300mAh battery. Instead, it uses OnePlus’s own Dash Charge tech, which boosts the amperage to the phone with its own proprietary charger. That allows the phone to go from zero to 59 percent in just 30 minutes of charging, and all the way up to 93 percent in just one hour.

Keep in mind that OnePlus no longer sells the OnePlus5T from its web site in Europe and the US, as it is getting ready to release the OnePlus 6 very soon. However, if you want to get a fast charging phone that doesn’t cost a lot of money, you can still buy the OnePlus 5T at Amazon.

Honorable Mentions

HONOR View10

The latest mid-range entry in the HONOR series of phones is the View10. It has a pretty large 3,750mAh battery, but it can still get close to 50 percent of its capacity in just over 30 minutes. While that’s not as fast as the OnePlus 5T, it’s still pretty impressive for a phone with a bigger battery.

Samsung Galaxy S8/S8 Plus

2017’s flagship phones from Samsung are still excellent handsets that are now in the mid-range price category. They are also great fast charging phones, and should allow owners to charge them up completely from zero to 100 percent in about 1 hour and 40 minutes or so with its fast charging adapter.

Best phones with fast charging – Budget

Motorola Moto G5S Plus

The Moto G5 Plus has a functional design, but it’s more than a little dull.

It gets a bit harder to find new or recent fast charging phones in the budget range, but they exist and Motorola’s Moto G5S Plus is an excellent choice. While it does have the older Micro-USB port at the bottom of the phone, the handset still supports Moto’s TurboPower charging capabilities for its 3,000mAh battery.

Outside testing has shown that the phone can charge up to 43 percent of its battery capacity in just 30 minutes, and 78 percent in an hour, again with its own charger. While that’s not as fast as most of the phones in the flagship and mid-range, that’s still pretty impressive. You can get this phone right now from Amazon for just $260.

The new version of HMD Mobile’s Nokia 6 has recently gone on sale, and unlike the 2017 version, this one has a fast charging cable included. Early tests show that the phone’s 3,000mAh battery should charge up to close to 50 percent of its capacity in about 30 minutes or so.
