Poll shows plenty of Pixel 10 Pro owners are skipping the Pixel 11 Pro

It’s certainly tempting to upgrade the moment your smartphone’s successor is released. It’s a feeling that many Pixel 10 and older owners likely felt and are still feeling this week, given that the Pixel 11 series is now available. However, as strong as that temptation might be, it’s often far smarter to resist it.

This rings true for Pixel 10 Pro owners in particular, a phone that still has plenty going for it. A little over a year into its lifespan, it can look forward to some six years of software support; its cameras remain some of the best in the game; and it likely won’t slow to a crawl in any noticeable way in the coming months or years.

This begs the question: Does this make the Pixel 11 Pro undesirable as an upgrade target? While I offered my thoughts in a recent article, I wanted to know our readers’ opinions on this.

We ran a poll specifically asking Pixel 10 Pro owners whether they’re upgrading to the Pixel 11 Pro, keeping their current phone, or opting for something else. The results suggest that Google might face an uphill battle getting these Pixel owners to upgrade their devices.

This poll received just under 1,600 votes, and the majority of respondents are committed to holding their cash and current phones close to their chest.

Just over 58% of voters are sticking with their Pixel 10 Pro devices, at least for now. That’s a significant share, especially considering that 29.2% are upgrading to the device. Notably, only 5.6% of respondents are upgrading to another Pixel 11 phone, while 6.9% are switching to a non-Pixel Android phone.

Pixel 10 Pro vs Pixel 11 Pro: Skip or trade?

So why are Pixel 10 Pro owners sticking with it? Our readers offered up a few takes in the comments.

Patrick-Julian Q. Fulgado highlighted a prevailing trend we’ve seen gather steam among our readers: the slow death of the annual upgrade.

I have 1 simple reason, it’s only been one year. Even the most enthusiast tech person doesn’t need and shouldn’t want to upgrade annually, even if it was to a different brand. 2 years minimum for them and 4+ for the average consumer.

Commenter srvctec highlights just how long readers are hanging onto their devices:

I’m still running my P8P and will wait another year before upgrading, if I even do it then. Got it on release week and no issues with it the whole time and the battery is still going strong.

Others, like someoneinthewolf92, highlighted fundamental problems with the Pixel 11 Pro:

Literally, the LAST THING, an Android phone needs on this earth, is less RAM.

Not everyone is against upgrading. In fact, some readers have utilized the trade-in system to actually gain value. As mattcatt16 explains:

Paid about $400 for my P10P last year after discounts and trade in. Google gave me $600 for it to upgrade to the P11P. Easy decision.

Pixel 10 Pro satisfaction is sky high

Despite various issues cropping up for Pixel 10 Pro owners, from battery drain to overheating, overall owner satisfaction with the device remains strong.

In another poll we ran in early August and prior to the Pixel 11 series’ launch, around 55% of 1,944 voters said that they were happy with the device, while only 16% felt aggrieved.
