TL;DR
  • Google is starting to roll out screensavers from the Pixel 11 to the older Pixel 9.
  • The feature first arrived with Pixel 10, and Pixel 11 added a new “Charge” style, all of which are now starting to show up for Pixel 9 users.
  • The rollout seems limited to a handful of users, leaving us unsure of the wider rollout.

Last year, the Pixel 10 brought a selection of new screensavers. These options marked the feature’s first major update in more than a decade, but it remained exclusive to the Pixel 10 at launch. This year, it expanded to Pixel 11, which also added another new style. And these now seem to be making their way to the older Pixel 9.

Google now appears to be rolling out the Screen Saver feature to the older Pixel 9 series. We received a tip from Telegram user Sameerasw, informing us that their Pixel 9 Pro is getting screen saver options similar to the Pixel 10 and the newer Pixel 11 series. The user also shared a screen recording confirming that the Pixel 9 Pro now lets them choose from various new screensaver styles. These include the Pixel 11’s new Charge screensaver as well as Clock and Weather options first added to the Pixel 10 series.

While the Pixel 9 phones already had the option for setting a clock as the screen saver, it was rather bland and simplistic. Pixel 10 brought many more expressive, vibrant clock styles, which now seem to be coming to the Pixel 9 series.

Additionally, we spotted another report on Reddit claiming that the Charge style is now also available for the Pixel 10. This makes sense, given its availability on the older Pixel 9 series.

We’re unsure whether Google also plans to roll them out to older devices. On top of that, not many Pixel 9 users seem to have received the screen savers, suggesting this might be a server-side rollout or a test with a limited number of users. Meanwhile, if you want to recreate the same feature on another Android device, this unofficial app lets you do just that.
